The ten commandments. Exodus 20: 1-17

The Lord gave us His law in the book of Exodus 20:1-17. The law is called ‘The ten commandments’

The following are the ten commandments:

  1. You shall have no gods before me.
  2. You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
  3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
  5. Honour your father and your mother.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbour.
  10. You shall not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that his thy neighbour’s.

Moral lessons

  1. God wants us to thank Him for giving us His commandments to guide us in all our ways.
  2. God wants us to ask Jesus to send the holy spirit to help us to obey His commandments.
  3. God gave us His commandments because He loves us.
