Common Crimes and Associated Punishments

Theft:
This is the crime of stealing something from a person or place.
Associated punishment
The culprit will be tried in the court of law and if found guilty, he/she will be required to:
- Return the stolen item.
- Public disgrace.
- Excommunicated until he/she pays fine.
- Sentenced to imprisonment.

Rape:
This is sexual assault or contact involving the use of threats, force, and intimidation with a person who does not want it.
Punishment
- Long term imprisonment without an option of fine.

Drug Trafficking:
It is the act of concealing, conveying or exporting psycho-active or hard drugs.
Punishment
- Confiscation of the hard drug.
- Burning of the hard drug.
- Jail term of imprisonment (10 years) without the option of fine.
- Some of them that hide drugs in their body system die there.

Human trafficking:
This is the act of recruiting, transporting and transferring of persons across borders with the intent to deceiving and exploiting them.
Punishment
Imprisonment without the option of a fine ranging from 5 years to 10 years.

Murder:
This is the crime of killing somebody deliberately or unlawfully. It is also the intentional killing of another person. It can be a homicide.
Punishment
Culprit pays with their life (no imprisonment). This is the maximum or capital punishment. No fine to be paid.

Food contamination or adulteration:
This denotes food items that have gone bad as a result of a long stay, expiration, etc.
Punishment
- Imprisonment of offenders.
- Detention of culprits.
- Confiscation of these contaminated food items.
Crime and National Security
National security is the aggregate requirement to maintain the survival of the state through the use of economic power and political superiority.
Crimes that affect national security
- Pipeline vandalism.
- Drug trafficking.
- Human trafficking,
- Illegal bunkering.
- Terrorism
Observing and reporting common crimes
Common crimes such as falsehood, theft rape, murder, arson, advance free fraud, trafficking in fake drugs, contaminated food items, babies born to sell, etc. All these inflict hardship, pain, injury and heavy material loss on helpless members of the public.
Ways of observing common crimes in society
- Through observable traits.
- Intelligence monitoring.
- Through spying.
- Espionage could be used to collect useful information covering sensitive areas, at the international level.
- Globalization
- Vigilante watch/curious neighbourhood.
Ways of reporting common crimes
There are several ways of monitoring and reporting common crimes. They include:
- Personal qualities.
- Reporting techniques.
- Ability to make contacts.
- The press.
- The police press conference.
- The police can appeal for help if the culprits are at large.
- The supply of full details of wanted criminals is necessary.
- The police should have a police press card.
Appropriate response:
To reduce the damaging or negative effects of common crimes, the individual, family village, community, state and nation should always act without delay, any time there is a distress call. The Individual should know that those involved in common crimes are opportunists. It is always said that prevention is better and cheaper than cure.
