Comprehension, Vocab Dev., Changing Indirect Speech to Direct Speech

Hey Lovelies!

Welcome to class.

COMPREHENSION:

POEM: THE WIND

The wind is a wolf

That sniffs at doors

And rattles windows

With its paws.

Hidden in the night,

He rushes round

The locked-up house

Making angry sounds

He leaps on the roof

And tries to drive

Away the house

And everything inside.

Tired next morning,

The wind’s still there

Snatching pieces of paper

And ruffling your hair.

He quietens down and in the end

You hardly notice him go

Whispering down the road

To another place to blow.

QUIZ

Find each word in the poem. Choose the correct meaning.

  1. Rattles shakes       b. cleans
  2. Paws   feet           b. nose
  3. Snatching   dropping b. taking quickly
  4. Ruffling messing up   b. combing

Note that the phrase “The wind is a wolf” uses the figure of speech called Metaphor by directly comparing The Wind with A wolf. This use of metaphor is to awaken your senses or awaken your imagination about the wind. It shows that the wind has something in common with the wolf, that common nature or characteristics is “fierceness” or “wildness.”
