Effects of natural disasters

Natural disasters result in a lot of pain and sorrow. For example, during earthquakes and landslides, houses are destroyed and those inside them get killed. Sometimes, the houses are suddenly buried. When an avalanche occurs, the houses in its path get destroyed.

Cyclones, tornadoes and hurricanes destroy property and kill people.

Floods destroy farms and drown people. Sometimes, people’s homes are submerged. Besides, those who survive flood, often get infected with various diseases.

Tsunamis cause extreme kinds of flooding. They sweep away buildings, humans and animals into the sea. The lava from volcanoes destroy everything in its path because it is very hot and it moves very fast. The eruptions from a volcano release toxic gases which later cause diseases such as lung cancer. Volcanic eruptions can also lead to fires.

The following are some of the general effects of natural disasters:

  • Loss of lives
  • Loss of property
  • Epidemics
  • Environmental pollution (which also results in diseases).
  • Loss of farmlands
  • Lack of food and clean water
  • Homelessness
  • Economic loss (poverty)
  • Psychological damage: Those who survive disaster experience a lot of sorrow and confusion
