FAMILY

The family is an important social institution of the society. Without the family, there cannot be the society. This is because we come from different families where we live to form the society.

TYPES OF FAMILY

There are two types of family:

  1. Nuclear family
  2. Extended family

1. Nuclear family: This consists of the father, mother and their child or children

2. Extended family: This consists on father, mother, children, grandparents, uncle, aunts etc.

i. Grandparents: Parents of a person’s father or mother

ii. Uncle: The brother of one’s father or mother or the husband of one’s aunt

iii. Aunt: The sister of one’s father or mother or the wife of one’s uncle

iv. Nephew: A son of one’s brother or sister or of one’s brother-in-law or sister-in-law

v. Niece: A daughter of one’s brother or sister, or of one’s brother- in- law or sister-in-law

vi. Cousins: A child or children of one’s uncle or aunt.
