In today’s class we will be talking about common farm insects in our environment. Enjoy the class!

COMMON FARM INSECTS IN OUR ENVIRONMENT

There are many harmful insects in our environment. Common examples include Tsetse fly, Mosquitoes, beetles, weevils, grasshoppers, locusts, caterpillars, termites, housefly, crickets etc.

Some of these insects are called farm pests because they affect and destroy our agricultural crops when growing in the farm. Examples are grasshopper, caterpillar, locusts, termites, cricket and beetle.

Some of these insects are also called storage pests. Storage pests are organisms which cause damage to agricultural farm produce after they are grown and harvested. That is they affect crop plants when they are stored. Examples are cockroach, weevils, housefly etc,

Some of these insects also affect farm animals by transmitting diseases to them. Examples are tsetse fly, Housefly, mosquito, cockroach etc.
