Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians (2 Thessalonians 3: 6-15)
In Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians, he encouraged them to work hard. To work means to either work with one’s hand or mentally with one’s brain.
He heard that some of the believers were idle and lazy. He reminded them of how he worked and never ate for free in anyone’s house just to show them the value of hard work. He told them to imitate him and do away with laziness.
Furthermore, he commanded that anyone who does not work should not eat and such should be avoided so that he can learn a lesson.
Advantages of hard work
Hard work has several advantages:
- Hard work can lead to success in life
- It pleases God and God blesses those that are hard working.
- It brings joy and satisfaction
- It makes our family proud of us
- It prevents lack and want
- It can lead to development of one’s community
- Aiding labour with prayers
When we work, it is equally important to pray and ask God for help and strength to work hard. When we do so, God supplies strength to work hard and bless the work of our hands and mind. Prayer brings increase, strength and preservation to labour.
