What to Consider When Planning Meals

  • Age of family members.
  • Family income
  • The available food in the locality.
  • The type of work family members does
  • The nutrient needs of the family members

Food Good for Breakfast

  • Fruit drinks such as Oats or Corn flakes, egg or fish stew, bread and tea.
  • Pap/akamu/koko, custard and akara balls.
  • Bread or koko or akamu with moinmoin
  • Bread and tea, egg or fish stew with fresh fruit or fruit drink.
  • Boiled or fried yam with egg and sardine stew, and tea, coffee or cocoa drink.

Food Good For Lunch

  • Fried chicken, jellof rice and fruits
  • Fish or meat and okro soup with amala or eba and pineapple slices.
  • Tuwo masara or tuwo shinkafa with kubewa soup, meat or fish and banana.
  • Boiled rice, meat and vegetables stew with fresh fruit
  • Pounded yam, egusi soup, meat and fruits.

Food Good For Dinner

  • Boiled yam, egg dish and pepper sauce.
  • Yan pottage with fish stew and fruits
  • Moinmoin with agidi
  • Tuwo shinkafa with kuka soup

Menu Planning

Menu is a list of the dishes to be served at a meal.

Qualities of a Good Menu

  • It should provide variety.
  • It should provide balanced diet.
  • It should be suitable for the age and health needs of the person who will eat it.
  • It should be suitable for the time of the day.

Examples of a Menu plan

  • Breakfast- Bread, Tea, Boiledegg
  • Lunch- Fish and Okro soup, Amala, pineapple slices
  • Supper- Stewed fish, yam pottage, Hot chocolate
