Special Dishes and Drinks

Special dishes are cooked during special occasions and ceremonies like Christmas, Eld-el Kabir, birthday, wedding, child naming, and festivals, among others. The dishes may be continental or traditional.

Examples of Continental Dishes

  • Vegetable salad
  • Roasted chicken
  • Iced cake
  • Swiss roll
  • Chicken pie
  • Scotch egg
  • Fried rice
  • Meat pie
  • Drinks- wine, minerals, malt, etc

Examples of Traditional Dishes

  • Rice and stew
  • Pepper soup
  • Jollof rice
  • Suya/sere, dambo nama
  • Fried plantain, fried potato chips
  • Fried meat, chinchin
  • Fried chicken
  • Drinks- kunu, zobo, palm wine, lemonade, etc

  • Frying
  • Stewing
  • Roasting
  • Steaming
  • Baking
  • Grilling

Cooking Traditional dishes

How to fry Plantain

Ingredients- Some plantain, salt, oil for deep frying

Equipments– Kitchen knife, sieve, Plate, mixing bowl, frying spoon, deep frying pan

Method

  • Peel the plantain
  • Slice thinly and put in a sieve
  • Heat the oil until smoking, hot
  • Fry slices of plantain in small quantities
  • Reduce the heat and fry until golden brown
  • Remove and drain in a sieve
  • Sprinkle little salt to taste
  • Serve in a plate
