HELLO CHILDREN, WELCOME BACK TO CLASS

Time is a very important resource. Due to the movement of time, we can mark birthdays and dates of other important events in our life. Time helps us tell seasons, night and day etc. time helps us to determine morning, afternoon and night.

We tell time using clocks or wristwatches

Clocks function by the movement of the hour hand, minute hand and seconds hand.

The seconds hand is usually the longest and the fastest. Followed by the minute hand and then the hour hand.

Telling Time

1A                                                                               1B

The clock in fig 1B above is telling the hour time. We can see that the minute hand is on 12 while the hour hand is on 9. So, we say the time is 9’ O clock. Hence when the minute hand is in 12 and the hour hand is on any number, the time is O’ Clock of that number

The figure in 1A shows half hour. It can be seen that the minute hand is on 6 while the hour hand is on other numbers. So, we have half past 4, half past 3 and half past 2 in the picture.

Examples

Time is Half Past 8’ O clock                      Time is 3’O clock
