Coal, lignite(brown coal)
Enugu, Ezime, Orukpa, Okaba, Kogi, Ogboyoga, Benue, Plateau, Ondo, Zamfara, Asaba, Akwa- Ibom, Anambra, Imo, Rivers, and Edo state. Coal as a source of revenue, the coal industry at Enugu then contribute to the growth of the city and creates employment for Nigerians.

Crude oil and natural gas
Akwa- Ibom, Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Ondo, Imo state, etc. The contribution of the oil and natural gas industries to the Nigeria economy is immense. The availability of crude oil in Nigeria has necessitated the establishment of oil refineries and creates employment for many citizens and expatriate workers in oil fare.

Tin
Buturu, Barkin-Ladi and other areas around Jos Plateau. Tin mining has contributed to the growth of Jos plateau and increase the economic power of the state.

Lead and Zinc
Abakaliki, Enugu, Abuja, Anambra, Abia, Akwa-ibom, Bayelsa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Imo, Plateau, Niger, Kano, and Taraba states. The mining company of the lead and zinc serve as a source of employment for the inhabitants and to their neighbouring communities but not much economical to the government.

Salt
Ebonyi, Abia, , Akwa- Ibom, plateau, Benue, Borno, Imo, sokoto, Kastina, Nasarawa. Salt is the number of the important ingredient in food production. It is added to food to give it a better flavour or to preserve it.

Sand and gravel
Sand is found in all states in Nigeria.

It can be found in mountain base and river.

Gravel- Auchi, Ishegu, the western and northern part of Nigeria.

Sand and gravel are used in Nigeria for various constructional work. They yield revenue to the individual as well as to the government.

Gold
Kabba, Minna, Ilesha, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Oyo, Ebonyi, Abuja, Abia and Edo. It is highly economical before but now is worked out, you can only find a very tiny deposit. Its current production rate is less than 170 grams per year. Gold creates the avenue for beatifying and dressing.

Usude, Agbaja, and Itakpe, Itobe and Shintake, Delta, Kogi, Edo and Nasarawa states. Iron and steel company moves the economy of a state forward and most of the developed nations sprang up for iron.

Sagamu/ Ewekoro, Nkalagu, Ukpilla, Igara, Sokoto, Akwa- ibom, Ondo, Nasarawa, Benue,Borno. Limestone demand is high because it is needed in the production of cement for construction work. Because of limestone deposit in these regions, the establishment of cement industries was put in place and generate revenue to the government as well as the creation of employment to citizens.

Jakura, Auchi, Ukpilla, Igara, Sokoto, Abuja, Bene, Oyo, Plateau, River, Kogi and Kastina state. It applies beauty to building and statues.

Clay
Abuja, akwa-ibom, Anambra, Oyo, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Rivers, Ogun, Ondo, Nasarawa, Kaduna state. Clay forms a basis for ceramic factory take-off and self-reliance. Its product give comfort at home and growth beyond the making of pots to the making of mugs, bidets and cistern, make good demand in the market.

Glass sand
Delta, Rivers, Edo, Lagos and Ondo states. Glass company was established to absorb many Nigerians and expatriates workers to provide the market for glass.

Importance of solid minerals

Some of the importance of solid minerals include

  1. They serve as a source of income.
  2. They create many job opportunities for many citizens.
  3. Solid minerals are used in making many products, e.g. cement, Jewellery, roofing sheet, salt, etc.
  4. Solid minerals can strengthen ties between countries through Importations and exportation of solid minerals.
  5. It sustains the nation’s economy and national security.
  6. Solid minerals can lay the foundation of a nation’s fortune.
  7. Solid minerals ads tangible value to our way of life and the health of all that lives.
