In the last lesson, it was established that pesticides and herbicides are important materials required for crop production. However, like every other thing, there are consequences when too much of it is applied.

A moderate quantity of chemical must be used on plants. If used in excess, it may cause the following problems:

  1. Destruction of the soil structure.
  2. Destruction of soil organisms.
  3. Pollution of the environment.
  4. Death of animals in nearby streams and rivers.
  5. Death of animals in the streams results in air pollution.

Activity

  1. Remember and state the benefits of pesticides and herbicides to plants from the last lesson.
  2. What happens to crop plants if pests and weeds are not controlled or gotten rid of.

Safety measures to be taken while applying chemicals

  1. Do not use your hands to mix chemicals.
  2. Use knapsack sprayer and other spraying equipment to spray.
  3. Wear protective clothing like gloves, goggles, and masks.
  4. Do not use your mouth to blow the nozzle of the sprayer when it is blocked.
  5. Do not use your mouth or teeth to open a chemical bottle.
  6. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while working with pesticides.
  7. Observe the wind direction when spraying.
  8. After applying pesticides, always take a thorough bath or shower to clean your body
  9. If you notice any symptoms like headache or if you do not feel well after working with chemicals, see a doctor immediately
  10. Never reuse an empty pesticide or herbicide container for any purpose.
