Water Quality

Welcome to class.

Water is a colourless liquid substance that is important or vital in our everyday activities. Water quality is the state of purity of water. High quality water is the water that has high degree of purity. i.e, it is free from germs and filthy particles. Water, free from germ and dirt, are called good water and they are safe for drinking. Water containing germs and dirts are called bad water and they are not safe for drinking.

SOURCES OF WATER

Water can be obtained from different sources: natural source and artificial source.

Natural sources of water: these sources exist in nature, i.e are God- made. For Example:

Pond
River
Spring
Stream
Lake
Sea
well
Rain

Artifical Sources of Water: These sources are Man- made. For example:

Dam
Tap
Hand pump

PROPERTIES OF GOOD WATER

  1. It has no taste
  2. It has no colour
  3. It does not contain solid or dissolved particles
  4. It has no odour
  5. Good water boils at 1000C

 PROPERTIES OF BAD WATER

  1. Bad water has taste
  2. It may have colour
  3. It has odour
  4. It does not boil at 1000C
  5. It is not safe for drinking, cooking, bathing. Etc.
  6. It contains particles.

  EVALUATION

  1. What is good water?
  2. List 4 physical properties of good water
  3. List four properties of bad water
  4. Mention 4 natural sources of water.
