Welcome to today’s class!!

We are thrilled to have you in our class!!

In today’s Information Technology class, we will be talking about  Wide Area Network

Wide Area Network

Wide Area Network

A simple way we can look at Wide Area Network is by seeing it as a collection of Local Area Networks (LANs) or other networks that communicate with one another.

A WAN is essentially a network of networks, with the Internet the world’s largest WAN.

Wide Area Network

This means that the public internet that we use every day is a type of WAN as devices situated in opposite corners of the world can communicate with each other.

However, in organisations and companies, a WAN has a more specific application. It refers to a group of connected networks operating in a private environment, typically run by a single company, a government, or a group of government agencies.

In summary, as organizations grow and become international, WANs allow them to communicate between branches, share information and stay connected.
