Martin Luther King Jr. – The Man Who Had a Dream

Imagine going to a school where some children are told, “You cannot sit here because of your skin colour.” Or imagine a park where only some people are allowed to play. That would not be fair, right? Well, a long time ago in the United States of America, Black people were treated unfairly. But Martin Luther King Jr. stood up and said, “We are all equal, and everyone should be treated with kindness and fairness!”

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. From a young age, he saw that Black people were not given the same rights as white people. They were not allowed to sit in the same places, go to the same schools, or even drink from the same water fountains. This was called racial segregation, and Martin did not like it.

Instead of fighting with violence, Martin Luther King Jr. used peaceful protests to speak against injustice. He led marches, gave powerful speeches, and encouraged people to demand their rights without fighting. His most famous speech was called “I Have a Dream”, where he spoke about a future where children of all colours could live and play together without discrimination.

Because of his hard work, the laws in America began to change. In 1964, Martin Luther King Jr. won the Nobel Peace Prize for his peaceful fight for justice. Sadly, in 1968, he was killed by someone who did not like what he was fighting for. But his dream did not die—his words and actions still inspire people all over the world today!

Think about this: Imagine if, during lunch at school, some students were given delicious food while others were told, “You can only eat plain rice because of your skin colour.” That would not be fair, right? Martin Luther King Jr. fought so that everyone, no matter their skin colour, would be treated equally.

Conclusion

Martin Luther King Jr. was a brave and peaceful leader who taught the world that love is stronger than hate. Because of him, many people today have equal rights and can live together in peace. His famous words, “I have a dream,” remind us that we should always stand up for what is right.
