SOURCES OF ENERGY
The major source of energy is the sun. Other sources are water, coal, wood, etc
USES OF ENERGY
Both living things and non- living things uses energy to survive.
Non-living things also use energy. Think of a car – it needs chemical energy. Appliances in the home use electrical energy.
As human, any form of exercise we engage in uses energy
- in the classroom – walking, writing, sitting
- on the playground – running, jumping, kicking, walking, swinging
- on the way home from school – walking, running
- at home – walking, reading, watching
PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION OF SOUND ENERGY
ACTIVITY I: HOW TO MAKE A STRAW FLUTE
Materials
- Two plastic straw of different diameters
- Scissors
- Adult help
Steps to follow.
Step 1: Cut the end of the smaller straw into a point
Step 2: Slide the smaller straw into the larger straw. This way your straw flute has the option to become a trombone!
Step 3: Insert the pointed end of the straw into your mouth and blow. If the pointed end of the straw is in the correct spot in your mouth you will get the end to vibrate, creating a kazoo-like sound. If you cannot hear the sound slowly move the point back and forth, in and out of your mouth, until you hear it.
Step 4: You should find that if you slide the large straw back and forth that the pitch changes too! You can also carefully cut the straw as you blow through it, creating a higher and higher sound.
