Hello. Welcome to class. In today’s class, you will learn about simple machines.

Let us begin.

Simple machines have few or no moving parts. Just like the stick, they use energy to work with one movement. We call them simple machines because we can make them work by pushing, pulling or turning them. Each simple machine has a special way to make work easier for humans.

Simple machines can be used at home, school, at the garden, or at the place of work etc.

SIMPLE MACHINES AROUND OUR HOMES

There are simple machines in our homes. All these machines or tools makes our lives much easier. Examples are bottle opener, broom, spoon, knife pair of scissors, tin opener, etc.

HOW SIMPLE MACHINES WORKS

Examples:

Bottle opener	Hammer
The lever is the bar that you hold and push up to take the cap off.	The handle is the lever on the hammer. If you push the bar or handle down, the claw of the hammer pulls out the nail.

 

USES OF THE SIMPLE MACHINES USED AROUND THE HOUSE

Simple machines	Name	What it is used for
	Stapler	To attach papers together
	Broom	To sweep the house
	Spoon	For eating
	Knife	For Cutting
	Scissors	For Cutting  various materials

SAFE USE OF SIMPLE  MACHINES AT HOME OR IN SCHOOL

Remember, simple machines makes our work easier, however, they are not toys, we should not play with them and we need to be careful when handling them.

Here are some safety rules in using them.

• Don’t run with sharp objects, for example, a knife.
• Always work in the kitchen with an adult.
• Be careful if you are using a sharp knife.
• When using scissors, watch carefully while you cut. Scissors are sharp.
• Don’t leave a broom lying on the floor. Someone could trip over it.
