- Making Ridges or Mounds: For some crops, like yam and cassava, farmers make ridges or mounds. These are raised rows of soil that help with drainage and provide a good place for the crops to grow. It’s like building a special bed for the plants.
Let’s use an example. Imagine a farmer wants to grow maize. First, they choose a field that gets plenty of sunlight and has good soil. Then, they clear the field of any weeds and bushes.
