Welcome to class!
Hello, my resourceful student! I’m so happy to have you back for another practical lesson. Today, we’re going to talk about “uses of personal and family resources.” This means how we use the things we have, both as individuals and as families, to meet our needs and wants. It’s like using the ingredients in your kitchen to cook a meal or using your toys to play. Let’s begin!
Uses of Personal and Family Resources
We all have different things available to us that we can use. These are called resources. Some resources belong to us as individuals (personal resources), and some belong to our families (family resources).
Personal Resources: These are things that you have as an individual.
- Time: Everyone has 24 hours in a day. How you use your time is a very important personal resource. You can use your time for studying, playing, helping your family, or resting.
- Energy: This is your physical and mental strength. You use your energy to do things like playing sports, doing chores, or concentrating on your studies.
- Skills and Talents: These are things that you are good at, like drawing, singing, playing a musical instrument, or being good at sports. You can use your skills and talents to help yourself and others.
- Knowledge: This is what you have learned from school, from your family, and from your experiences. You can use your knowledge to solve problems and make good decisions.
- Money: This is what you can use to buy things that you need or want. You might get money from your parents as pocket money or by doing small jobs.
Family Resources: These are things that your family has that can be used by all family members.
- Money/Income: This is the money that your family earns, which can be used to buy food, pay for housing, school fees, and other expenses.
- House/Shelter: This provides a safe place for your family to live and protect themselves from the weather.
- Food: This provides nourishment for your family to stay healthy and strong.
- Furniture and Appliances: These are things in your house that make life easier, like beds, chairs, tables, stoves, and refrigerators.
- Vehicles: These are used for transportation, like cars, motorcycles, or bicycles.
- Land: This can be used for farming, building a house, or other purposes.
- Skills and Abilities of Family Members: Each family member has different skills and abilities that can be used to help the family. For example, one person might be good at cooking, while another might be good at fixing things.
How We Use Resources:
We use both personal and family resources to meet our needs and wants.
- Needs: These are things that we must have to survive, like food, water, shelter, and clothing.
- Wants: These are things that we would like to have, but we don’t necessarily need them to survive, like toys, games, or going to the cinema.
It’s important to use our resources wisely. This means:
- Planning: Thinking about how we will use our resources before we use them.
- Budgeting: Making a plan for how we will spend our money.
- Saving: Putting some of our resources aside for future use.
- Sharing: Using family resources together and helping each other.
Let’s use an example. Imagine your family has some money (family resource). You might use some of that money to buy food (a need) and some of it to go to the cinema (a want). You might also save some of the money for a future expense, like buying new school shoes. You use your time (personal resource) to study and also to play with your friends.
So, to summarize, we all have personal and family resources that we use to meet our needs and wants. It’s important to use these resources wisely by planning, budgeting, saving, and sharing.
