Human Rights

Human rights are the basic rights and privileges of a citizen of a country as it is written in the constitution. They are rights considered basic for the realization of an individual’s human nature. They are right and freedom in which every human being is entitled to irrespective of age, race, colour, language, sex or geographical location. These right and privileges were declared in 1789.

Types of  fundamental human rights

Constitutional right
  • Right to life.
  • Right to privacy.
  • Right to a fair hearing.
  • Right to freedom of thought and religion.
  • Right to freedom of movement.
  • Right to freedom of expression.
Economic, social and social right.
  • Right to work.
  • Right to education.
  • Right to own a property.
  • Right to good health.
  • Right to parental care.
Political or civil right
  • Right to vote and be voted for.
  • Right to register and vote.
  • Right to participate in political activities.
  • Right to vote for the candidate of your choice.
  • Freedom from discrimination.

Protection of human rights

Group and individual can help in protecting human right by doing the following;

  • Protesting against the abuse of human right by a government or fellow citizens through protest matches or mass media.
  • Sponsoring and supporting actions meant to reverse abuses of human right.

The following group assist and help in the protection of human rights. They include but not limited to the following:

  • Ethnic unions.
  • Civil society.
  • Legal aid councils.
  • Student’s organization.
