When was the last time you had a good meal? Was it breakfast this morning, or maybe a tasty lunch yesterday? Did you know that planning your meals can help you stay strong, active, and healthy? Meal planning is like preparing for an exciting journey with food—it helps you decide what to eat and when to eat it, so your body gets all the right nutrients.

Let’s break it down:

What is Meal Planning?

Meal planning is when you think ahead about what foods to eat. It’s a little like when your parents plan a trip, they make sure they have all the right things packed. For us, we plan meals to make sure we eat healthy foods that help us grow, give us energy, and keep us feeling good.

Why is Meal Planning Important?

Imagine if you only ate candy all day, every day. You’d probably feel sick and tired. But when you plan healthy meals, you make sure your body gets what it needs to stay strong and smart. Healthy eating helps you run faster, concentrate better in school, and grow tall and strong like superheroes!

The Three Major Meals of the Day

We eat three major meals every day:

  1. Breakfast: This is like the fuel you need in the morning to start your day. It’s like putting petrol in a car before driving. Some examples are akara and pap or bread and egg.
  2. Lunch: After working hard in school, your body needs more energy. That’s where lunch comes in, like jollof rice and fish, or yam and beans.
  3. Dinner (Supper): At the end of the day, your body needs energy to relax and sleep well. This could be rice and stew or amala and ewedu.

Think about your day like a football match. Breakfast is like the warm-up, lunch is like half-time, and dinner is like the final whistle. If you miss any of these meals, it’s like trying to play a match with no energy!

We’ve learned that meal planning is important because it helps us eat healthy and stay strong. Remember, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are your body’s best friends, and they need to be well-planned to help you grow.
