What is drug abuse?
Drug abuse is the habit of taking drugs without the doctors’ advice, direction and prescription.
Normal use of Drugs
- Drugs are used for curing or preventing a disease or deficiency.
- Some drugs which include antibiotics act against bacteria and fungi.
- Drugs are used in treating inflammatory diseases such as arthritis.
- Vitamins and dietary minerals are used as food supplements.
- Quinacrine and other synthetics act against malaria and other parasitic infections.
- Some drugs which are smooth-muscle relaxant makes one feel good and active. It makes the person’s nerve to relax and the person will sleep well.
Abnormal use of Drugs
- Drug is misused if a medically-prescribed drug is taken inappropriately.
- Drug is misused if a person takes a dosage other than that recommended.
- It is misused if a person takes drugs to induce sleep without prescription from a qualified medical doctor.
- It is also misused if a person takes drugs to gain confidence or boldness.
- Drug is misused when a person shares a prescribed drug with other people.
Effects of Drug Abuse
- Drug abuse makes one lose interest in school.
- Change friends; i.e. hanging out with friends that take drugs.
- Drugs makes one become moody, negative or worried all times.
- Drug addicts are always left alone most of the time.
- Abuse of drug makes one not to concentrate.
- Drug addicts end up losing or gaining weight.
- Abuse of drug makes one to get in a fight.
