What is drug abuse?

Drug abuse is the habit of taking drugs without the doctors’ advice, direction and prescription.

 

Normal use of Drugs

  1. Drugs are used for curing or preventing a disease or deficiency.
  2. Some drugs which include antibiotics act against bacteria and fungi.
  3. Drugs are used in treating inflammatory diseases such as arthritis.
  4. Vitamins and dietary minerals are used as food supplements.
  5. Quinacrine and other synthetics act against malaria and other parasitic infections.
  6. Some drugs which are smooth-muscle relaxant makes one feel good and active. It makes the person’s nerve to relax and the person will sleep well.

 

Abnormal use of Drugs

  1. Drug is misused if a medically-prescribed drug is taken inappropriately.
  2. Drug is misused if a person takes a dosage other than that recommended.
  3. It is misused if a person takes drugs to induce sleep without prescription from a qualified medical doctor.
  4. It is also misused if a person takes drugs to gain confidence or boldness.
  5. Drug is misused when a person shares a prescribed drug with other people.

 

Effects of Drug Abuse

  1. Drug abuse makes one lose interest in school.
  2. Change friends; i.e. hanging out with friends that take drugs.
  3. Drugs makes one become moody, negative or worried all times.
  4. Drug addicts are always left alone most of the time.
  5. Abuse of drug makes one not to concentrate.
  6. Drug addicts end up losing or gaining weight.
  7. Abuse of drug makes one to get in a fight.
