Hello, my meal planner in the making! 🍽️
Welcome back to class. Today, we’re going to learn how to plan a healthy meal and even create our own menu card like a chef!
Imagine you’re the chef of a restaurant, and people come to eat meals that you have planned. To make sure everyone eats healthy, you need to know how to plan the right foods. Meal planning isn’t just for your family—it can be used in restaurants, hotels, or even when you have guests at home!
How to Plan a Healthy Meal
When planning a meal, we need to think about:
- Variety: Your meal should have different types of food. For example, rice alone is not a balanced meal. Add fish and vegetables to make it healthy.
- Nutrients: Make sure your meals give you energy (like carbohydrates), strength (like proteins), and keep you healthy (like vitamins from fruits and vegetables).
- Portion Size: Don’t eat too much or too little. Just enough to keep you full and energized.
Factors that Affect Meal Planning
Here are some things to think about when planning a meal:
- Age: Younger children need smaller portions, but adults need larger meals.
- Time of Day: Your breakfast should be lighter, while lunch and dinner should have more to keep you going.
- Health Needs: Some people may need special meals if they are diabetic or have allergies.
Writing a Menu Card
A menu card is like a list of meals you plan to serve. For example:
- Breakfast: Moi Moi and pap
- Lunch: Pounded yam and egusi soup
- Dinner: Fried rice and chicken with watermelon
By writing a menu card, you’re like a professional chef organising meals for a family or restaurant.
Think about when you go to a party and someone serves you jollof rice, chicken, and salad. That was planned ahead to make sure everyone has enough food and gets different types of nutrients to stay healthy.
Now that you know how to plan meals and write a menu card, you’re ready to help your family eat healthy every day! Remember to always include a variety of foods on your plate to stay healthy and strong.
