In today’s class, we’re going to dive deeper into the fascinating world of plants. Just like people, plants have their own unique characteristics that make them special and vital for life on Earth.

Characteristics of Plants
Cell Walls: Plants have cell walls made of a tough substance called cellulose. These walls give plant cells structure and support.
Chlorophyll: Most plants contain chlorophyll, a green pigment that captures sunlight for photosynthesis. This magical process turns sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water into food (glucose) and oxygen.
Autotrophic: Plants are autotrophic, meaning they make their food from sunlight and don’t need to hunt or gather like animals.
Multicellular: Unlike single-celled organisms, plants are multicellular, meaning they have many cells that work together.
Reproduction: Plants reproduce in various ways. Some use seeds, while others use spores or runners. This diversity allows them to adapt to different environments.
Adaptation: Plants have unique adaptations to thrive in their environments. For example, cacti store water in their stems, and water lilies have leaves that float on water.
Growth: Plants grow throughout their lives. They can grow taller, wider, and produce new leaves, flowers, and branches.
Today, we’ve learned that plants have incredible characteristics like cell walls, chlorophyll for photosynthesis, multicellular structures, diverse reproduction methods, adaptations to different environments, and continuous growth.

Assignment
Choose a plant in your local area or even a potted plant in your home. Observe its characteristics up close. Notice the shape of its leaves, the color of its flowers, and any unique features it has. Draw a picture or take a photo of the plant, and share your observations with the class!
