Welcome to class.
Elements of design are the basic ingredient an artist uses to carry out on artwork.
TYPES OF ELEMENTS OF DESIGN
- Line: This is a moving dot used to create any shape. Example vertical, horizontal.
- Colours: this is the pigment that shows on any object. It makes the object look natural. Example; Green, Yellow
- Tone: This is the effect of light and shade on an object. It involves the process from the lightest to the darkest.
- Texture: this is the quality of surface of an object. It can be smooth or rough.
- Form: Is the shape of any object, it could be round or cylinder. Example; Triangle, Oval.
- Space: This is an open platform used for artwork. Example: Wall, Plywood, Etc
PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN
These are the guidelines an artist must follow when carrying out a work of art.
TYPES OF PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN
- Variety: Is the component that makes an artwork interesting. It allows an artist to focus on an important area of his work.
- Balance: Is the arrangement of various object in a given space to achieve satisfaction.
- Rhythm: Is the overall flow of colours, texture in artwork.
- Proportion: Is the consideration of size of object or element in a design.
- Unity: is the coming together of design element to form a good composition.
- Repetition: Is the repeat of colours, shapes, textures in an artwork.
