In today’s class, we will be talking about human emotion (love). Enjoy the class!
Human Emotion (Love)
Love is a strong feeling of affection. It is a feeling of intense, attraction thereby trusting and showing care towards someone. This feeling of affection can be either romantically or sexually. Love can also be defined as the purposeful commitment to sacrificial action for another. There are various types of love. They are:
- Erotic love (eros): This is a passionate and intense form of love that arouses romantic and sexual feelings, although this kind of love burns out quickly.
- Affectionate love (Phileo): This is an affectionate warm and tender love. It makes one desire friendship with someone. This kind of love is felt among friends who have endured hard times together.
- Familiar love (Storage): This love resembles phileo but it is love without physical attraction. This kind of love happens between parents and their children, and children for their parents. It is the love members of a family have for one another
- Selfless love (Agape): This is the highest and most radical kind of love. It is mostly an unconditional love God has for his children. Selfless love is the purest form of love regardless of shortcomings.
Qualities of love
- Kindness: This also brings about happiness, understanding the needs, aspiration and suffering of the one you love brings about true love.
- Compassion: This is the intention to relieve someone from suffering and lighten sorrows. It involves deep concern. Being compassionate expresses true love.
- Joy: True love brings joy to ourselves and those around us and joy brings about happiness.
- Non-discrimination: This is another major quality of love. True love doesn’t discriminate but rather see everyone as one and equal.
Other qualities of love are:
- Mutual

- Patience
Behaviours that enhance a love relationship
- Take responsibility for yourself by learning how to treat yourself with kindness, caring, compassion and acceptance. This will make one stop blaming one’s partner for one’s unhappiness.
- Treat others the way you want to be treated by being kind-hearted and understanding.
- Stop blaming others consistently, angry, withdrawn or unavailable.
- Learn how to handle conflicts rather than trying to win. This helps one to grow emotionally by learning and not controlling.
- Put up an attitude of gratitude rather than complaints. Gratitude creates inner peace and a healthy relationship.
In our next class, we will be talking about Goal Setting. We hope you enjoyed the class.
