Decision-making is the process of deciding something or making choices that one thinks are right/logical from different options. Making a decision can be a very long process for some individuals and can require attention. To make a decision is to conclude an event. Making a decision helps to achieve desired and set goals For decisions to be made, there have to be alternatives.

Reasons for decision making

  1. To get a desired result/ outcome.
  2. To be committed to a particular line of action.
  3. To achieve set goals and objectives.
  4. To affect our future in the desired way planned.
  5. Making decisions can also be to boost our self-esteem and encourage us to have confidence in what we planned to do.

Factors influencing decision making

  1. Past experience.
  2. Age
  3. Individual differences.
  4. Level of commitment.
  5. Past failures/successes.
  6. Socio economic status.

Steps for decision making

  1. Identify the decision that is about to be made.
  2. Collect useful information that will guide you in making the appropriate decision.
  3. Identify the alternatives available and try to create new alternatives, if possible.
  4. Each of the alternatives should be carefully looked into by assessing the advantages and disadvantages.
  5. Choose among the alternatives after carefully analyzing each other.
  6. Implement the decision made.
  7. Review the results gotten from the decision made.
