Athletics - Sprint Race Techniques

  1. Starting Position: In a sprint race, you start from blocks. Your feet are set in the blocks, and you crouch down ready to go.
  2. Explosive Start: When the race begins, you explode out of the blocks. Use your legs and arms to push forward.
  3. Arm Movement: Swing your arms powerfully from your shoulders to help your legs move faster.
  4. Leg Movement: Your legs should move like a pendulum, driving forward with each stride.
  5. Keep Low: Stay low to the ground, but not too low. Don’t bounce up and down while running.
  6. Breathing: Keep your breathing steady. Breathe rhythmically to get enough oxygen.
  7. Finish Strong: As you near the finish line, give it your all and sprint to the end.

Competition Rules:

In sprint races, there are specific rules to follow:

  • False starts are not allowed. Athletes must stay in their blocks until the starter’s gun goes off.
  • Athletes run in their lanes to ensure a fair race.
  • The athlete who crosses the finish line first wins.
