Dough Products

Welcome to today’s class!!

We are thrilled to have you in our class!!

In today’s Catering Craft’s class, we will be learning about Dough Products

Dough Products

If you are from Nigeria, there’s every possibility that you eat dough products weekly. Why is this? As young students, buying snacks is a routine you probably engage in all the time. Dough products are flour made and eaten across different places.

Back to Nigeria! Some of these Dough Products include ChinChin and Egg roll.

Chin Chin, also known as dough rocks, is an African snack that is also eaten as a dessert. It is a delicious crunchy snack that is prepared from a well-made and kneaded dough.

Nigerian chin chin is a very popular street snack across Nigeria, it’s made from a basic combination of flour, milk and sugar. There are other optional ingredients like egg, baking powder and nutmeg, these are based on preference.

Egg rolls, on the other hand, are ball-shaped buns that contain a whole hard-boiled egg inside.

They are completely different from the American Chinese egg rolls, which look like spring rolls; they are more similar to British scotch eggs instead.

Unlike scotch eggs though, African egg-filled rolls do not contain meat — making them a great vegetarian alternative!

In Nigerian egg buns, the egg is wrapped in a soft, thick, and chewy bread-like dough which develops a crispy crust when fried.

The wrapper dough is prepared with flour, baking powder, sugar, and aromatic nutmeg. And it’s enriched with milk, like cow’s milk, condensed milk, or coconut milk.

Preparing these African egg bread buns from scratch is very easy: boil the eggs first, knead the dough and then assemble the buns.

Finally, deep fry the egg-filled rolls until golden brown and you’re done!

These crusty egg rolls are tasty and filling, so you can always enjoy them as a snack.
