Multiplication is the process of calculating the total of one number multiplied by another. Multiplying means repeated addition of a number. (The number must all be the same before we can use it to multiply). There is no special rule for multiplying money. Rules that apply to multiplication of numbers also apply to multiplication of money.
Examples
Division of Money
The division is breaking a number up into an equal number of parts. Division is splitting into equal parts or groups. It is the result of “fair sharing”.
Just as items, articles, numbers, etc can be shared or divided among people or groups of people, money also can be divided. There is no special rule for dividing money. Rules that apply to division of numbers also apply to division of money.
Example 1: divide #24 by 2 Example 3: divide $42 by 3
- A seed company filled 4 bags with seed. They put 2 grams of seed in each bag. How many grams of seed are there in all the bags combined?
- A chair costs $ 542 and a table costs $ 750. What will be cost of 15 chairs and 30 tables?
- The monthly salary of a Mrs. Loreta is $ 3,850. What is her annual income by salary?
- A bicycle costs $ 425. How much will be paid for 87 such bicycles?
- Divide $393 by 3
- Divide #460 by 4
- 4 students are to share 48 berries. How many will each get?
