Hello children, welcome to class
At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
- Name different types of soil
- Observe the properties of the different types of soil
- Describe the properties of the different types of soil
Soil is a non-living part of the environment. It is a top covering of the earth in which plants normally grow. It contains air and water. So, it is important to plants. It is also important to animals, also to man.
TYPES OF SOIL.
There are three main types of soil. They are sandy soil, loamy soil and clayey soil.
Sandy Soil
Loamy Soil
Clay Soil
WHAT SOIL LOOK LIKE
The three types of soil have different properties. The colour of one is different from the other. Each of them also feel differently when we rub them on our palm.
- Clay soil is found near rivers, is sticky and hard to dig. It is used to make bricks, for building and making art works or moulding things.
- Loam soil is fertile, easy to break apart and dark in colour. It is sticky and light. It is good for growing plants as it keeps the water in it so the plants can grow.
- Sandy soil is tiny bits of sand. Water drains through it quickly. It is used for building. Sand is also used for making glass. Sandy soil can be used for building (mixed in cement) or melted to make glass.
EVALUATION

- Are their colours the same?
- Which is the darkest
- What is it used for?
