In today’s Religious and National Values class, we will be learning about the Meaning of Government
Meaning of Government
Government is the system whereby a group of people governing an organized community, often a state
It also is the body of people who control the public affairs of a nation at the federal, state, and local level.
Tiers of government
The tiers of government include the following:
- Federal government- is the body of people who controls the public affairs of a nation at the federal level
- State government- is a body of people who controls public affairs of a nation at the state level
- Local government- is a body of people who controls public affairs of a nation at the local level. This is also known as the grassroots government. It is the government closest to the people.
Government’s main responsibilities include these:
Maintenance of peace and security: The police force is the main agency of government which protects lives and property. The police maintain peace in society.
Maintenance of law and order: The government ensures that people obey the laws of the country, so that things can work in an orderly way.
Justice and equity: Government ensures that people get justice whenever they have a problem. It does this by establishing different courts, and employing lawyers and judges. When people have a problem with other people, they can go to court and get fair judgment.
