In today’s Religious and National Values class, we will be learning about Process of Changing Culture
Process of Changing Culture
Culture is a way of life of a group of people – the behaviours, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next.
Some of our culture that are bad can be changed through:
- Education- This is done by enlightening people at school, at home by telling tales, workshop, seminars and training.
- Discussion- This is when people come together to sincerely speak their mind on the need to change a particular culture.
- Dialogue- This is coming together of people to agree on certain issues.
Other reasons why culture can change include the discovery and technological innovation, contact with other cultures and environmental changes.
There are two types of cultural change, that is, internal cultural change and external cultural change.
An example of cultural change is the replacement of fire and stone tools with modern technological tools, such as electricity and other advanced tools.
In summary, Culture is constantly evolving. Invention and culture loss are primary strategies leading to cultural change. Inventions may be ideological or technological. On the other hand, culture loss is the loss that cannot be escaped and replacement of old cultural patterns with new ones. For example, modern cars have since replaced horses and camels.
