National Value Right Attitude to Work

• National Value

They are the practices, culture and qualities that define a people. They are the beliefs that are shared by people about what is good or bad.

Attitude simply means someone’s behaviour, opinion or feeling about something. It involves a person’s state of mind, feelings, values, the disposition that makes an individual act or behaves in a certain way. Attitude can either be positive or negative.

A right attitude to work will increase productivity and profitability, a negative attitude to work may reduce productivity and profitability. It is therefore important that we maintain the right attitude in everything we do.

Attributes of the right attitude

1. PUNCTUALITY: This is the state of being punctual or prompt to work. A person who has a positive attitude to work would not come late but rather resume at the appropriate time.
2. DEDICATION: An individual with the right attitude to work will be focused and committed to working. He/she will not neglect duties unnecessarily.
3. COMMITMENT: This is an act of being sincere and focused on one’s duties. This is one of the attributes of a person who has a positive attitude to work.
4. HONESTY: it is the act of being fair and just in one’s dealings. It is moral uprightness at work. An honest person will always tell the truth and stay away from any form of fraudulent activities.
5. DILIGENCE: This is the act of being hardworking with a lot of determination, vigilance without paying unnecessary attention to previous failure or discouragement.
6. REGULARITY: A regular worker/student go to work/school always without giving unnecessary excuses for absence.
7. DISCIPLINE: A disciplined person knows what to do at the right time without being told.
8. TRANSPARENCY: This is when one is open and frank at work.
9. CONSISTENCY: A consistent person will always give his best all the time. He/she does not show two opposite sides in behaviour, character or work pattern or quality.
10. INTEGRITY: This is being honest and living by what is considered right.

Rewards for the right attitude to work

1. It brings about continual profit-making for the organization.
2. Encouragement and promotion for the worker(s) with the right attitude.
3. Increased profit-making leads to increased salary and bonus for the workers/staff.
4. It enhances a good and cordial relationship among workers.
5. It brings success/progress and happiness to work.
6. Staff/workers have the zeal to work harder.
