Cultural dance is a dance method that reflects our tradition, culture, belief, history and style. Every culture has its own method of dancing. The way an Igbo man or woman dance is different from the Yoruba’s dancing step.

TYPES OF CULTURAL DANCE

  1. Bata: is an ethnic ceremonial dance with drums played. It is originally from the Yoruba tribe.
  2. Atilogue: is a dance step with the fat usually danced by the Igbo women.
  3. Ekombi: is a dance from Calabar. It is danced by the maidens dressed in multi-coloured attire. It shows the beauty and maturity of a woman.

ELEMENT USED IN CULTURAL DANCE

  1. Costume: is the set of colour used for dance.
  2. Movement: is the body action.
  3. Music: is the song played during dance.
  4. Space: Is the time and energy in dance.
