Overgrazing

Overgrazing occurs when plants are exposed to intensive grazing for extended period of time or without sufficient recovery period. It can also be caused by livestock, game reserve or nature reserve. It is excessive grazing which cause damage to grassland.

CAUSES OF OVERGRAZING

  1. It is called by excessive grazing planting by wildfire or livestock.
  2. Removal of too much green material from a plant.
  3. Use a grazing chart to plan out a rotation.
  4. Monitor grass growth and rainfall.
  5. Maintain proper positive residuals for the area.
  6. Reduce the rate of animal grazing the land.
