What is marriage?

This is can be defined as a union between a man and a woman in which the two become one physically in the whole world. The purpose of marriage is to reflect on the relationship, serve God together, and give rise to young ones. The husband leads the wife and she must submit to his leadership. (Eph 5:31).

Marriage is the most basic and significant social relationship with humankind. The relationship must be mature and maintained for the welfare of all, without marriage society with fall and be corrupt. The husband’s responsibility is leadership, even as Christ is the head of the church (Eph 5:23). The responsibility of the wife is to be submissive to the husband as to the lord, love the husband, give sacrificial love. (Eph 5:22) (Eph 5:23).

A marriage can glorify, God, and function properly only when both partner are believers in the messiah. The husband must love his wife as he loves his own body. The husband must treat his wife with respect. The husband must provide and protect his wife. Wife to submit to her own husband.

Types of marriage

  1. Islamic marriage
  2. Christian marriage
  3. Ordinance/ court marriage
  4. Traditional/ customary

These are the breakdown of the types of marriage we have;

  1. Christian marriage: this marriage takes place in the church by the pastor whereby they join man and woman together to become one. A man cannot marry more than one wife.
  2. Islamic marriage: this takes place in the mosque by imam they join a man and woman together by the Imam. The man can marry more than one wife.
  3. Court marriage: this type of marriage take place in court. They join man and woman together to become husband and wife. A man does not have a chance to marry another wife if they want to separate they will go back to court.
  4. Traditional marriage: this marriage is conducted according to the tradition of the people that are involved.

Purpose of marriage

  1. Companionship
  2. Protection
  3. Enjoyment
  4. Completeness
  5. Fruitfulness
