Meaning of Biography

Biography is the life history of a person by another person. It consists of the date of birth, place of origin, education, occupation, achievement, contribution to the society, date and place of death if the person is dead.

  1. Biography of some Christian leaders

There are good Christian leaders that have lived a godly and still living a fulfilling life till date. It will be good to know more them and equally learn from them. Some of them are

 

  1. Samuel Ajayi Crowther
  2. Moses Orinmoladed Tunolase
  3. Joseph Ayodele Babalola
  4. Williams F Kumuyi
  5. Anthony Olubunmi Okogie
  6. Sunday Mbang.

 

  1. Samuel Ajayi Crowther

Samuel Ajayi Crowther was born in 1810 at Osogun (near Oyo) Oyo state, Nigeria. at a tender age, he was taken as a slave.

When the ship taking slaves to American got to Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone, he was among those released. He got his education at C.M.S primary school and Fourah- Bay College. He studied theology in England and he was ordained as Bishop. He married Anani who was baptized as Susan Thompson. He travelled to Nigeria and he did most of the missionary work at Abeokuta, Onitsha and Jebba.

 Achievements/Contributions

He translated the English Holy Bible and the Anglican hymn book into the Yoruba language. He died on December 31, 1891.

  1. Moses Orimolade Tunolase

He was born at Ikare Ondo state, Nigeria, in 1891. He is the founder of Cherubim and Seraphim Church in 1925. He started preaching the gospel in 1916.

Achievements and Contribution

He was blessed through the power of healing through water, candle and prayer. He did his missionary work in Lagos. He built a lot secondary schools throughout his missionary work.

  1. Joseph Ayodele Babalola

Joseph Ayodele Babalola was born in 1904 into a Christian home in odo-Owa Kwara state. he did his primary school at Ago ijaye, Ebutte –Meta, and All Saint School.

He was first trained as a traditional healer at Osogbo, he was a goldsmith and an apprentice driver with the former public works department (P.W.D), Osogbo in 1928, God spoke to him to leave his job and become a preacher

Achievements/Contributions

He started his gospel work at Ilesha but made Efon- Alaaye his station. He used water and prayer to perform miracle. He is the founder of Christ Apostolic Church (C. A .C)

The Christ Apostolic Church Mission has established a lot of primary, secondary, teacher-training colleges, seminaries for training their pastors. He died at Ede, Oyo state in 1959. He was buried at Efon- Alaaye in Ondo state.

  1. Williams F. Kumuyi

He is a native of Erin-Ijesha, W.F Kumuyi was born on June 6, 1941 into an Anglican home. He started school in 1951 into an Anglican home. He started school in 1951. He attended Mayflower school, Ikenne and passed out in 1961. On April 5, 1964, he was born again and he got involved with the Scripture Union and grew.

He attended the University of Ibadan and graduated with first-class degree in Mathematics in 1967 and later obtained a post graduate certificate in Education and he became a lecturer in 1973; he started Deeper Life Bible Study Group.

Achievement/Contribution

He founded the Deeper Life Bible Church in 1973, at the University Of Lagos. He founded the international Bible Training Center to develop soul-winners, church planters, character builders and full-time ministers and pastors.

  1. Anthony Olubunmi Okogie

Anthony Olubunmi Okogie was born on 16 June 1936, in Lagos Nigeria. He was ordained a priest on 11 December, 1966. He holds a licentiate in sacred theology in Rome.

Achievements/Contributions.

He played a role in the Christian Association Nigeria (C. A. N) and later became President of CAN. He also served as President of the Bishops Conference of Nigeria from 1994-2000

Also, he contributed greatly to the growth off catholic denomination. He was a human right crusader and a lover of justice

  1. Sunday Mbang

Sunday Mbang was born on August 26, 1936. He was born into a clergy family. He went into music after completing his school certificate examination. He was called to serve as a priest of the Methodist Church shortly after the death of his father. He bagged a doctorate degree from the Harvard School of Divinity. He always stands for justice. He retired in November, 2006.

Achievements/Contributions

He was the former president of the Christian Association of Nigeria and also the prelate and head of the Methodist Church of Nigeria among the leader of the Methodist Church in Africa.

  1. It is good to emulate these Christians leaders as they were obedient to the call of God upon their lives
  2. It pays to obey God
  3. Anyone who serve God will be honoured by God and man.
