Some of the Nigerian who formed their own indigenous churches are:

  1. Garrick Soraki Braide

He was born in the year 1882, Niger state. He had no formal education. He was a preacher and had a special gift of healing. He died in November 1918

Achievements/Contributions

He organized crusades and many became Christians. He destroyed all idols he found with his followers.

  1. Enoch Adejare Adeboye

He was born on the 2nd of March 1942 in Ifewara, near Ife in Osun state. He was from a humble background. He went to the only missionary school in their village. After his primary school, he was admitted into Ilesha Grammar School Ilesha, Osun state. Despite his family’s dire financial condition, he chased his dream relentlessly and ultimately obtained a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nsukka, Nigeria and also his doctorate and Ph.D in Applied Mathematics both from the University of Lagos.

After the death of the founder of The Redeemed Christian Church of God in 1981, Adeboye took over the leadership of the church as the church’s General Overseer based on an instruction left by Akindayomi before his death.

Achievements/Contribution

He has become an influential pastor in Nigeria and in the world. He is also an acclaimed writer. The church owns primary, secondary, tertiary schools. They also have Bible colleges for soul-winners, full time ministers and pastors.

  1. O. Oyedepo

David Olaniyi Oyedepo was born on September 27, 1954 in Oshogbo. He is a native of Omu- Aran in Kwara state. His clan, Odo- oro (place of wealth) and family lineage believed in hard work. He is from a mixed religious family. His father Ibrahim was a muslim healer. His mother Dorcas, was a member of the Eternal Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement (C&S). Very little is known about his primary and secondary education, but Bishop Oyedepo studied Architecture at Kwara State Polytechnic now Kwara State University and worked briefly resigning to concentrate on missionary work. He also gained a Ph.D. in Human Development from Honolulu University, Hawali, United States of America. He is the founding of Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel in May 1981. He is an accomplished author and a strong critic of corruption on Africa as a whole and poor leadership in government.

Achievements/Contribution.

He is the founder of Living Faith Church. He has also contributed to educational system. The church has several primary, secondary and Universities in the country.  He also runs a foundation known as David Oyedepo Foundation (DOF) where he sponsors the less-privileged through to the University level.
