PAUL’S MISSION (II)

welcome back to class

1. Paul at Antioch in Pisidia (Acts 13: 13-42)

The prophets, teachers and disciples were in the church at Antioch worshipping and ministering to the Lord. The Holy Ghost said, ‘separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work which I have called them to do’. And when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands-on Paul and Barnabas, they sent them away for missionary work.

In Pisidia, they entered the synagogue and Paul stood up and preached the word of God.  He told them about Abraham, Moses and other prophets. He also told the gentiles that they now had access to salvation through the death of Jesus. This made the Jewish leaders very angry. The Gentiles heard the word of God, all who were appointed unto eternal life believed. But the Jewish leaders and men and women of high-standing expelled them from their region

2. Paul at Lystra and Derbe.  (Acts 14: 5-19)

When they got to Lystra and Derbe, Paul healed a man who was lame since birth. After the miracle, the people called them gods. Paul and Barnabas tore their clothes and told the people that they were not gods but mere human like themselves.  They preached the word of God to the people, telling them about God. But some of the Jews came and pulled the crowd over to themselves. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. The disciples gathered around him, he got up and went to the city. They preached the gospel and the number of disciples increased.

  • Paul preached to different people. Acts 14: 20-28

When they departed from Lystra and Derbe, they preached to different people. They went to Pamphylia, Perga, and Attalia. Then they returned to Antioch, Lystra and Iconium to strengthen the faith of the believers, encouraging them to endure hardship for the kingdom of God. They appointed elders over the church and sailed back to Antioch where they stayed for a long time.
