Gender Discrimination

Welcome to today’s class!!

We are thrilled to have you in our class!!

In today’s Religious and National Values class, we will be learning about Gender Discrimination

Gender Discrimination

Gender Discrimination

Gender discrimination occurs when a person is treated negatively or unequally based on their gender.

Every girl and boy deserves an equal chance to survive and thrive.

Gender discrimination is harmful by limiting the ways people express and identify themselves. It also isolates or marginalizes members of our community who do not conform to historical, limited, and traditional views of gender, especially those who have 2 or more minoritized identities

Gender inequality is discrimination on the basis of sex or gender causing one sex or gender to be routinely privileged or prioritized over another.

Gender equality is a fundamental human right and that right is violated by gender-based discrimination. Gender disparity starts in childhood and is right now limiting the lifelong potential of children around the world – disproportionately affecting girls.

Around the world, while contexts and gender roles vary from place to place, we can see that gender inequalities occur everywhere; and at every stage of life, beginning with childhood or even before birth.

How Can We Stop Gender Discrimination?

  • Ensure equal access to education.
  • Empower women in the workplace.
  • Protect reproductive rights.
  • Strengthen legal protections.
  • Provide better medical care.
  • Achieve better political representation.
  • Prioritize the most marginalized.

In summary, Gender discrimination means any exclusion or restriction made on the basis of gender that creates barriers for girls, boys, women and/or men in recognizing, enjoying or exercising their full and equal human rights.
