Jesus and His Family (Matthew 13:53-56, 12:46-50)

Mary and Joseph had other children after the birth of Jesus. The names of his sisters were not mentioned in the Bible. His brothers were James, Joses, Simon and Judas

Jesus Obeyed His Parents (Luke 2:51-52)

Jesus grew up to become an obedient, disciplined and hardworking child. He obeyed all the instructions given to Him by His parents and He also respected people in the community.

He attended the synagogue school in Nazareth where the Jewish children were taught everything about God’s dealings with their forefathers beginning with the call of Abraham.

They also learnt about the importance of religious festivals celebrated by the Jews. Examples of such festivals are The Passover, the feast of Pentecost and the Feast of Tabernacle. They were also taught God’s law and how it helps us to maintain a good relationship with Him and with one another.

Jesus Understanding of Family (Mathew 12:46-50)

On a particular day, Jesus was preaching and He was told that His mother and brothers wanted to speak with Him. Jesus, therefore, asked His disciples “who is my mother and who are my brothers?” Jesus then turned to His disciples, “Behold my mother and my brothers for whoever does the will of God the same is my brother, sister and mother”.

Thus Jesus spoke of those who do God’s will as the family of God. In other words, those who are obedient, respectful, humble, loving, kind and hardworking belong to the family of God.

Moral Lessons
  1. We must learn to call upon Jesus to help us to be obedient, disciplined and hardworking students so that we can be successful.
  2. We must learn to pray to Jesus to help us take care of our families and make us responsible people to our country when we start working.
  3. We must learn to call upon Jesus to help us to be outstanding in our field of specialization.
  4. We must learn to ask Jesus to help us do the will of God so that we can become a member of His true family.
