THE ANGELIC VISIT TO MARY – LUKE 1:26-38
The angel Gabriel was sent by God to a single, young woman called Mary. Mary was a virgin engaged to be married to a man whose name was Joseph. The message Gabriel gave to Mary was that she was going to conceive in her womb a baby boy that would be called Jesus. The angel said that the boy Jesus will grow to become great and he will be called the son of the highest and the Lord will give him the throne of his father David. This is because Joseph is from the lineage of David.
However, the conception of Mary will be a divine conception that will not involve man’s effort. The conception of the baby Jesus would take place by the power of the Holy Spirit. The angel said that Mary was highly favoured because God chose her to be the vessel to be used for this glorious divine work of God. Mary believed the message. Mary was also told that her cousin Elizabeth has already conceived at her old age, that she was already six months pregnant. The angel Gabriel informed Mary about this to let Mary know there is nothing impossible with God.
How, where and why Jesus was born
- How Jesus was born Luke 2:1
At about the time Jesus was to be born, the ruler over the world then Caesar Augustus made a decree that a census was to be done and everyone had to go to his or her home town to be registered in this census. At this time, Joseph and Mary; now married were living in galilee. So, they had to travel to Bethlehem, Mary went into labour and gave birth to the baby boy Jesus in a manger because they could not get any room to stay due to overcrowding of the town of Bethlehem as a result of the census.
- Where Jesus was born Luke 2:1-7
Jesus was born inside a stable in the town of Bethlehem. A stable is a place where animals with hoods are kept. When he was born, he was placed inside a manger. A manger is a tough made for animals to eat. The saviour of the world was born in this lowly place meant for animals. This is a lesson of humility for us all.
(c) Why Jesus was born john 3:16
Jesus was born into this world to save us from the power of sin, because every man born into this world is born as a sinner. Man cannot save himself from the bondage of sin. The only way man could be delivered from sin is for man a person who is without sin to die for the sin man committed in the Garden of Eden when the first man Adam ate the fruit forbidden by God for him to eat. Man came under the power of sin so Christ came for this purpose that man will be delivered from influence of sin.
