Three wise men from the east came to Jerusalem to see the baby Jesus because they saw his star from afar off. They did not know the exact location, and they went to King Herod to enquire whether he will know his location. King Herod did not know but felt threatened because the three wise men referred to Jesus as the king of the Jew. King Herod became interested in the baby Jesus and instructed the three wise men to give him information when they have found the child. When the three wise men found the baby Jesus, they gave him three gifts; Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh. They returned to their homes through another way as instructed by God.
Ways in which God protected Jesus Matthew 2:1-16
God protected our Lord Jesus after his birth in two ways:
- God appeared to the three wise men in a dream not to return to Herod because if they go back to him, he will send people to kill the baby Jesus. Because the three wise men did not go back to Herod, he sent his soldier to go and kill all male children in Bethlehem and its surroundings from two years and under.
- For the second time, God protected the lord Jesus from death by appearing to joseph in a dream to warn him to take the baby Jesus and his mother to Egypt till king Herod died.
Ways in which God, our parents and government protect us
- God
- By preventing us from falling sick and contracting deadly disease
- By giving us food
- By preventing us from harms and dangerous attacks
- By providing for our parents to take care of us
- By giving us good parents and good guardians to take care of us.
- Parents
- By clothing us and giving us food
- By providing us with shelter
- By taking us to hospital when we fall sick
- By correcting us when we do the wrong things that will put us into trouble
- By guiding us in the right direction of life.
- Government
- By providing us with hospital and other medical and health facilities employing qualified personnel to work in the hospital
- By providing us with police protection
- Protecting the country’s territory with the armed forces against external and terrorist attacks
- By protecting the citizens of the country against oppression in a foreign country.
