Welcome to class.
It is difficult for us as human beings to explain who God is, for the god we can explain fully cease to be God. As Christians, we get our ideas about God from the Bible. Therefore, the Bible helps us to know who God is.
God is the Supreme Being because He alone created the world and Human Beings. He is a spirit, infinite, eternal and unchangeable. He is unchangeable in His being, power, wisdom, justice, goodness, holiness and truth. (Gen. 1:1, Jeremiah 10:12). As the source of the world and everything that exists, God is self-sustaining in that He eternally exists by His own nature. Because God is infinite and perfect, God lacks nothing and needs nothing.
Qualities of God
An attributes is the nature or characteristics of someone or something. God has many attributes such as:
- God is a sovereign Being: Which means he has authority and control over His creations.
- God is omnipotent: This means He is all powerful. (Ps. 62:11)
- God is omniscient: He sees and knows everything. (Ps. 33:13)
- God is omnipresent: He is everywhere at the same time. (Ps. 139:7-12)
- He is invisible: He cannot be seen by our ordinary eyes
- He is a spirit: He is always with us.
- God is love: He cares for us
- God is holy: There is no sin or injustice in Him
- He is righteous: He is pure
- He is blameless: There is no fault in Him
