Welcome to class!
In today’s class, we’re going to be talking about Jesus power over disease and death. I trust you will enjoy the class!
Jesus’ Power Over Disease and Death
Jesus is the Son of God who came to earth to save us from our sins. He also showed us His love and power by performing many miracles. Some of these miracles involved healing people who were sick or raising people who had died. These miracles show us that Jesus has power over disease and death, and that He cares for us.
Jesus Heals the Sick
Jesus healed many people who had different kinds of diseases and disabilities. He healed them by touching them, speaking to them, or even just by having faith in Him. Here are some examples of people Jesus healed:
– The leper: A man with leprosy, a skin disease that made him an outcast, came to Jesus and begged Him to heal him. Jesus touched him and said, “Be clean!” And the leprosy left him. (Mark 1:40-45)
– The paralyzed man: Four men brought their friend who was paralyzed to Jesus, but they could not get through the crowd. So they made a hole in the roof and lowered him down. Jesus saw their faith and said to the man, “Your sins are forgiven. Get up, take your mat and go home.” And the man got up and walked. (Mark 2:1-12)
– The woman with bleeding: A woman who had been bleeding for twelve years came up behind Jesus and touched His cloak, hoping to be healed. Jesus felt power go out from Him and asked who touched Him. The woman came forward and told Him the truth. Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” And the woman was healed. (Mark 5:25-34)
– The blind man: A man who was born blind was sitting by the roadside, begging. He heard that Jesus was passing by and shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The man said, “Lord, I want to see.” Jesus said, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” And the man could see. (Luke 18:35-43)
Jesus Raises the Dead
Jesus also raised some people who had died back to life. He did this to show His power over death and to give hope to those who mourn. Here are some examples of people Jesus raised:
– The widow’s son: Jesus went to a town called Nain, where He saw a funeral procession. A widow’s only son had died, and she was very sad. Jesus felt sorry for her and said, “Don’t cry.” He touched the coffin and said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” And the dead man sat up and began to talk. (Luke 7:11-17)
– Jairus’ daughter: Jairus, a synagogue leader, came to Jesus and begged Him to heal his daughter who was dying. Jesus went with him, but on the way, someone came and said, “Your daughter is dead. Don’t bother the teacher anymore.” Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” He went to the house and saw the mourners. He said, “She is not dead but asleep.” He took the girl by the hand and said, “Little girl, get up!” And she got up and walked. (Luke 8:40-56)
– Lazarus: Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, was sick. They sent a message to Jesus, saying, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” But Jesus did not go right away. He said, “This sickness will not end in death. It is for God’s glory, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” He waited two more days, and then He said, “Let us go back to Judea.” He told His disciples, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.” When He arrived, He found that Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days. Martha came out to meet Him and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” He went to the tomb and said, “Take away the stone.” He then prayed to the Father and said, “Lazarus, come out!” And the dead man came out, wrapped in grave clothes. (John 11:1-44).
What We Learn
– Jesus is powerful: He can heal any disease and even raise the dead. Nothing is impossible for Him.
– Jesus is loving: He cares for those who are suffering and comforts those who are grieving. He wants to give us life and joy.
– Jesus is the resurrection and the life: He said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26) He proved this by rising from the dead Himself. He offers us eternal life if we trust in Him.
We have come to the end of today’s class. I hope you enjoyed the class!
