How to Use the Sewing Machine

  • The first thing to do is to read the manufacturer instruction. This is contained in the manual.
  • Know the parts of the machine.
  • Follow correct threading of the machine according to the manufacturer’s instruction.
  • Test all stitches on double fabric
  • Do not watch the needle but the presser foot edge while sewing.
  • Keep the bulk of the fabric on your left side.
  • Always remove work towards the back of the machine.

Procedures For Operating Sewing Machines

  • Place the machine in good light.
  • Use a good sewing machine posture.
  • Fix the needle properly
  • Wind the bobbin. Do not over fill it. Fix bobbin into the bobbin case. Thread it properly.
  • Thread the machine correctly following the thread guide.
  • Before stitching, be sure that the upper and lower threads are filled to the back of the presser foot and that the thread takes up the highest point.
  • Test the stitches on a folded piece of fabric to ensure that the tension is alright.
  • Place the fabric in the machine so that the bulk of the clothes is at the left hand side where there is space for it.
  • Push both thread towards the back of the machine.
  • Lower the needle into the position required.
  • Lower the presser foot and begin to sew

Care and Maintenance of the Sewing Machine

Taking care of the sewing machine is important because it will make the machine last longer.

  • Clean the machine often by dusting to remove dirt and dust.
  • Oil the necessary parts according to the instruction handbook.
  • Cover the machine when not in use.
  • Avoid dropping the machine on the floor. Always carry it properly and carefully.
  • Do not scratch the plan work on machine by using sharp object like scissors on it.
  • Let the representative of the manufacturer service your machine once every year for you.
  • Create a permanent sewing center or area in the house so as to avoid carrying the machine about each time you want to sew.
