Jesus the son of God

Explanation of the term ‘son of God’

Jesus is the son of God because He is referred to as the son of God several times in the bible. Every believer who is led by the spirit of God is also a child of God.  The book of John 1: 12 says:

yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God’

Jesus was born by the power of Holy spirit

Jesus was conceived and born by his mother Mary through the power of the Holy spirit and without meeting with her husband Joseph. Mary, the mother of Jesus was a virgin who got pregnant by the Holy spirit and gave birth to Jesus. So, Jesus was born by the power of the Holy spirit.

Evidence of Jesus as the son of God. Matthew 3:16-17

The evidence of Jesus being the son of God is seen in the book of Matthew 3:16-17. We learnt that Jesus went to be baptized by John the Baptist. When he came out of water, the heavens opened, and the spirit of God came down like a dove and remained on Jesus.

Immediately the spirit of God came upon Jesus, the voice of God was heard from heaven saying that Jesus was His son.

This is my beloved son, with whom I am well pleased.”

The testimony of Simon Peter. Matt 16:16

When Jesus was with His disciples at Caesarea Philippi, He asked them what people thought about him and they answered him saying some say he was either John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. And He asked the disciples whom they thought He was, and Simon Peter answered that He was the son of God.

Simon Peter answered, “you are the Messiah, the son of the living God”

The event of the transfiguration. Matt 17: 1-13

Jesus took Peter, James, and John to a mountain to pray. When they reached there, Jesus was transfigured before the disciples. His appearance changed. His face shone like the sun. His dress was as white as light. Then Moses, the law giver and Elijah, the prophet who had died long ago, appeared, and talked to Jesus. Peter said they should build three tents, one for Jesus, one for Moses and one for Elijah. A cloud covered them, and the disciples were afraid. Then the voice of God was heard from heaven calling Jesus his son.

This is my son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him.”
