The story of the call of Abraham. Genesis 13: 1-3

The Lord said to Abraham to leave his country, his people and his father’s household to the land that he will show him. God made promises to Abraham to bless him and make him a great nation. He said he will bless whoever bless him and curse whoever curses him, that all the nation will be blessed through him.

So, Abraham went as the Lord had told him. He took his wife Sarah and his nephew Lot. He took all the possessions and everything he had acquired in Harran and they set out for the land of Canaan. After several months of travelling they arrived at Shechem.  Abraham was seventy five years old when God called him.

 

 

The purpose of God’s call.

God calls us for the following purpose:

  1. To serve him.
  2. To redeem us from our sins.
  3. To minister to others.
  4. To be blessed and bless others.
  5. To partake in His glory.

 

 

The right response to God’s call.

  1. Surrender to Him.
  2. Obey His call.
  3. We should pray about it.
  4. We should listen and follow His instruction.

 

Benefits of obedience to God’s call. Lk 5: 1-11, Gen 12:1-20

If you obey God, you will enjoy the following benefits:

  1. You will have fullness of joy.
  2. You will live in freedom.
  3. You will gain more wisdom.
  4. You will become holy and blameless.
  5. You will have the gift of the holy spirit.
  6. You will stay out of trouble.

 

Moral lessons

  1. God is always happy with people that obey Him.
  2. Obedience to God’s call brings peace.
  3. There are lots of benefit in obeying God.
