God gives His laws to us

Meaning of the term ‘law’

According to the Oxford advanced learners dictionary, law is the whole system of rules that everyone in a country or society must obey. The purpose of God’s law is to teach us our duties to God and one another.

Reasons for the law

The following are the reasons for the law:

  1. To live in peace with one another.
  2. To have order in the society.
  3. To be holy.
  4. There will be progress.
  5. You will have good relationship with God and others.

 

Purposes of the law (regulate the relationship between God and His people) Exodus 20: 1- 11

  1. The law is a mirror reflecting God.
  2. To have the knowledge of sin.
  3. It makes us to have respect for people.
  4. It guides us against doing evil.
  5. The law tells us what pleases God.

 

Moral lessons

  1. God wants us to thank Him for giving us the law to guide us in all our ways.
  2. God wants us to ask Jesus to send the holy spirit to help us to obey the law.
  3. God gave us law because He loves us.
